Trip Day 4
September 26th, woke right
at first light, around 6. It is cold in the boat so started the heater and put
it on high! Bundled up in a flannel
shirt and down vest. Extremes of weather here, one day swimming the next day
wearing winter clothes! Low 40's this morning. Mid-50's later today.
Lit up the
oven after mixing up my coffee cake mix. Put it in the oven to bake and got coffee water boiling for the French
press. Had fresh hot coffee cake and
coffee for the wake up, reading, and study time. Around 9 I began to make breakfast, just
cereal and toast.
Got my charts ready, completed this log, got the audio CD
ready to go for the trip over to Anderson Bay, but now it is raining AGAIN! I will have to hold off my departure from Marion Bay until it
stops. Don’t want to get wet getting the
skiff tied on the stern and releasing the mooring lines. I’ll wait awhile to see if it will stop. May have to put on the wet gear to depart, we’ll
see?
Yep, had to
put on my heavy weather gear, including rubber boots! Pushed the skiff off the shore and tied it to the stern of
the boat, then untied the two mooring lines and bow line, and loaded the
gangway plank. Backed away about 11:30 am. Cloudy and rainy. Just generally bad weather! I followed
the GPS map display through the Kempton Channel and saw one other boat
maneuvering around a boat site, not sure what they were doing? My audio book
stopped and it got quiet for some time so I finally put on some music to listen
to as I motored along.

Later I observed
another houseboat backing out of the Anderson Bay site but decided to try for
another site further around the corner that was more protected, near the trail head. However, after motoring around I decided it
was not a developed site but one people could use if they wanted to (note excursion on track above). I
chose not to and went back to the Anderson site and tied up about 1:30 pm. Still raining!

Good thing I
brought my heavy weather gear because it got used both leaving and arriving
today! The shore here is all small stones. Got secured and tied the skiff ashore to keep
things quiet tonight.
Got the
heater going again and had a snack of Korean jerky, some cashews, and water
followed by red wine and chocolates.
Listened to some music and started to prepare dinner ingredients. Today I’m making my friend's (Art Kidd) corn bread with
chili and a cold beer. I pre-mixed
the dry ingredients before leaving home so I just had to add the liquid
stuff and bake the muffins. Around 3 pm I lit the oven and began baking muffins. Put the chili on and got that ready so when
the muffins were done was all good to go! Great mix of chili with fresh hot muffins! Desert was the usual.
Still
raining!! Washed dishes and listened to my audio book for awhile and the rain
stopped or at least was very light. Decided to take a walk up the rock face to the south to see if I could find the trail that I think connects to this site. Took a few pictures but it was still
misting. Got a bit wet trying to walk
through the bushes and never did find the trail. I will try again tomorrow. Walked back and spent an hour reading the
book by Volk. Still raining! But, it is supposed to dry out tomorrow. I
hope so since I plan to hike the trail.
6:15 pm and getting dark already. I
will likely hit the sack early since I don’t think the upper deck fire ring is
on the agenda for this eve!
| Rock face was extensive, searched all over for trail but to no avail! |
| Indicative of the whole day - Mostly stuck inside! |
